Royal Border Bridge, Berwick on Tweed

P C Richardson & Co Ltd worked on the Royal Border Bridge, Berwick on Tweed, doing general maintenance and strengthening of the Grade 1 listed structure on the East Coast Main Line. Work included pressure pointing, grouting, installation of tie-bars and dowels, shotblasting and painting of steelwork, stone and brick repairs. All activities, including scaffolding, were carried out by our own workforce.

Bridge 32A, Calverley

The work we completed on Bridge 32A in Calverley includes extensive bank and river excavation for us to gain access to piers. We manufactured and installed pier strengthening jackets to both land based and river piers. Grouting of pier internals and jacket voids.

Spean Bridge, Scotland

P C Richardson & Co Ltd completed work on the Spean bridge which included an erection of slung scaffold to the underside of a 2 span steel bridge to allow access for surveying.

Smardale Gill Viaduct, Near Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria

P C Richardson & Co Ltd carried out the restoration of the 12 span redundant Smardale Gill Viaduct, Cumbria. Work included the installation of a reinforced concrete deck to the existing track level, installation of tie bars and dowels to the masonry piers and spandrels, including pointing, grouting and rebuilding of the collapsed stonework. PCR used a purpose made suspended platform instead of traditional scaffolding.

Thelwall Viaduct, Warrington

P C Richardson & Co Ltd began work on Thelwall Viaduct by replacing all 8 bearings on Pier V and selective bearings on other piers. Further examinations revealed that all 136 bearings needed to be replaced before the viaduct could fully re-open to traffic. PCR worked for 60 weeks to complete the replacement of the further bearings.

Irwell Valley Bridge M60 Motorway, UK

P C Richardson & Co Ltd installed steelwork to strengthen the bridge to allow for “jacking-up” of the structure to enable removal and replacement of the bearings.
